Hampton Inn & Suites — Grand Rapids Downtown

The Hampton Inn & Suites is a seven-story, 142-room downtown Grand Rapids hotel completed in 2015, anchoring the Mid Towne Village master development on Medical Mile. Third Coast Development saw an obvious gap in the downtown hospitality market — only a handful of hotel options serving visitors to the city’s growing cluster of education, clinical, medical, and research institutions — and structured the project to fill it.

The $27 million project sits closer to the Medical Mile’s education, clinical, medical, and research facilities than any other downtown hotel, with a 200-car parking ramp that serves both hotel guests and surrounding businesses. Approximately 30 jobs were created with the hotel’s opening, and the property continues to be operated by Lodgco Hospitality, Third Coast Development’s co-owner and operating partner on the asset.

The Hampton Inn & Suites is the largest single component of Mid Towne Village, Third Coast Development’s broader downtown redevelopment of the surrounding blocks, and a recurring case study in how the firm approaches mixed-use master planning: anchor the district with a hospitality use that drives visitor traffic, then layer medical office, retail, and residential around it on a walkable street grid.
